From a Woman's soul....

through a Woman's eyes by a Woman's hands......

On a recent trip to Knysna ,Emma and I walked into an Art Gallery we had not seen before. There were a series of interleading rooms and in the last one I found 2 artworks that left me spellbound. They were quite the most beautiful portraits of women I have seen in a long time. The works are huge and only 2 ,side by side filled the wallspace.

We stayed, breathing in the beauty created by Candace Charlton ,the artist.

Candace Charlton (Dutch/South African, B. 1968) was born and grew up in South Africa. She studied Fine Art at Rhodes University, majoring in Sculpture and History of Art. In 1998 she held her first solo exhibition. In 2000 she moved to Europe and lives and works in The Netherlands and in Italy.

Emma and I want to own one,each.....maybe one day....

Acceptance

When the spent sun throws up its rays on cloud

And goes down burning into the gulf below,

No voice in nature is heard to cry aloud

At what has happened.

Birds, at least must know

It is the change to darkness in the sky.

Murmuring something quiet in her breast,

One bird begins to close a faded eye;

Or overtaken too far from his nest,

Hurrying low above the grove,

some waif Swoops just in time to his remembered tree.

At most he thinks or twitters softly,

'Safe! Now let the night be dark for all of me.

Let the night be too dark for me to see

Into the future.

Let what will be, be.'

I'd rather have roses than diamonds around my neck

That is a famous quote by Emma Goldman, which I happen to agree with !

Richard B.Sheridans said ....Won’t you come into the garden? I would like my roses to see you.'

I love to have flowers in my house, even the smallest bloom perched in a teacup can bring you such joy.

I'd rather have roses

I have a new rose in my garden, her name is Sharifa Asma. She is an Old English rose ,a David Austin rose. My herb garden has 4 beds and in the one closest to my kitchen steps ,I am going to have 5 Old Rose bushes.I have a lot to learn about roses ,and this year is my Year of Getting to know Roses! Sharifa is my first.I chose her as her scent is beyond heavenly.A deep ,fruity rosy perfume. She is also a beautiful pale pink blushing sort of rose.

When her blooms are full blown they are huge flouncy tutus .I have already had one full bloom.I think she will live up to her rather exotic name!

Your Dreams

Bring me all of your dreams,

You dreamer,

Bring me all your

Heart melodies

That I may wrap them

In a blue cloud-cloth

Away from the too-rough fingers

Of the world.

Langston Hughes

A Year Begins

"Expect to have hope rekindled. Expect your prayers to be answered in wondrous ways. The dry seasons in life do not last. The spring rains will come again.”

(Sarah Ban Breathnach-Simple Abundance)

May your year spread out in front of you...a wonderful view....an open road....a deep breath....a tingle of excitement .It is yours for the taking .Blessings for 2010 xx
